Privacy policy

Who we are

alobonus.net is run by a two-person editorial desk based in Ghent, Belgium. We publish a weekly email called the value roundup. For anything in this policy, the contact is contact@alobonus.net, or by post at alobonus.net editorial desk, Postbus 118, 9000 Ghent, Belgium. We are the data controller for the information described here.

What we collect, and why

When you subscribe we store:

• Your email address, so we can send you the roundup.
• The date and time you subscribed, and the page you subscribed from, so we can show that you asked to receive it.
• Whether each issue was opened and which links were clicked, which our email delivery service records automatically. We use this in aggregate to see which sections readers find useful and to remove addresses that haven't opened anything in a year.

If you write to us, we keep the email exchange so we can answer you and follow up on a correction if there is one.

We do not collect your name, location, payment details, or anything from your device beyond what an ordinary email client sends when it loads a message.

Legal basis

We send the roundup on the basis of your consent, given when you subscribed. You can withdraw that consent at any time using the unsubscribe link in any issue or by emailing us. Keeping a record of when you subscribed is a legitimate interest: it lets us demonstrate that the emails were requested.

Who else sees it

Your address is held by our email delivery service, which sends the issues on our behalf and processes it only on our instructions. We do not sell, rent, or trade the list, and we do not upload it to advertising or social platforms for matching. If we are ever legally required to disclose information, we will do only what the law requires and will tell you if we are allowed to.

How long we keep it

• Your address stays on the list until you unsubscribe or until it has not opened any issue for twelve months, at which point we remove it.
• After you unsubscribe, the address is kept on a suppression list so we never email it again by mistake. Nothing else is retained.
• Correspondence is kept for two years, then deleted.

Your rights

Under the General Data Protection Regulation you can ask us to tell you what we hold about you, correct it, delete it, restrict how we use it, or give it to you in a portable format. You can also object to processing based on legitimate interest. Email contact@alobonus.net and we will respond within a month. If you are not satisfied with our answer, you can complain to the Belgian Data Protection Authority (Gegevensbeschermingsautoriteit), Drukpersstraat 35, 1000 Brussels.

Cookies and this website

This site sets no cookies and runs no analytics scripts. The fonts are loaded from Google Fonts, which means your browser requests them from Google's servers; Google's privacy policy applies to that request. Nothing else on the site contacts a third party.

Links in the roundup

Some links in the email are affiliate links, and are marked as such next to the link. Following one tells the shop that the visit came from us; it does not tell them who you are. Once you leave for a shop's website, that shop's privacy policy applies.

Changes

If we change this policy in a way that affects you, we will say so in the housekeeping section of the next issue and update the date at the top of this page.
